According to a comment made by Martin Heidegger, there is a »deadly animosity« between faith and philosophy, two forms of life. This absolute difference should however »uphold the possible common ground between theology and philosophy as ways of thinking.« Heidegger's correspondence with the distinguished Marburg theologian Rudolf Bultmann, which is made accessible to the public in this edition, provides outstanding proof of this possible common ground. Although it focuses on the matter which they discussed in Marburg, their correspondence reveals clearly the tension and the estrangement which characterized their friendship. It is a first-class testimony of intellectual history and documents a discussion between philosophy and theology which was unique in the twentieth century. At the end of the book there is an appendix containing a number of texts which refer directly or indirectly to the correspondence.Dispatchment takes place solely at Vittorio Klostermann publishing house in Frankfurt am Main.
