This discussion leads to a redefinition of objectivity. The basis and catalyst for the contributions to this volume is a recent account of contemporary hermeneutics offered by Günter Figal in his work Oppositionality.
The notion of the »object« is at the center of this collection of philosophical essays. What an object or a thing is, in which way one encounters it and what constitutes its objectivity remains a central topic of contemporary epistemology. Oppositionality. Since the reflection of the conditions under which objects are given has not only been at the center of recent hermeneutics but has been an important topic in German idealism, most notably in the works of Kant and Hegel, Neo-Kantianism and phenomenology (Heidegger, Husserl and Merleau-Ponty), this volume is set up as a dialogue between these concepts and various philosophical approaches to the question of objectivity.
