Summary
Non-discrimination remains as powerful a principle as ever in business and politics - as witnessed by the current debate on quotas for women on corporate boards, and that on same-sex marriage. Rules on equal treatment now apply not only to government, but also increasingly to businesses and citizens. Although anti-discrimination law has been subjected to much academic study, there has been a tendency to neglect some fundamental questions that lie at its heart. For a set of rules as large and as relevant as equality legislation, a commonly accepted overarching framework for its doctrinal structure is still lacking. This volume aims to supply new ideas to fill that gap.
