Summary
This collection of papers deals with the foundations of economic thinking. Part I provides basic epistemological and methodological ideas. In Part II, the author explains why Popperian falsificationism is a sound methodology for economics, contrary to views fashionable at present. For the publication in this collection, Wilhelm Meyer has added a new section on models, heuristics and realism. In Part III, he shows that a lot of new research programs in the history of economics were driven mainly by novel methodological views in science and philosophy. Part IV addresses the problem of whether Adam Smith's revolutionary works 'The Theory of Moral Sentiments' and 'The Wealth of Nations' were compatible or not.
