Summary
The impact on Germany of possible trade liberalization strategies in the next WTO round of multilateral negotiations is examined. The quantitative implications of three strategies are specified. The strategies are: elimination of nuisance tariffs, linear tariff reductions (EU strategy) and sectoral tariff reductions (APEC approach). Partial and general equilibrium analyses are applied. It is shown that, as concerns the German economy, across-the-board linear tariff reductions are superior to sectoral approaches.
