Summary
The universality of human rights has become one of the most contentious issues in the post-ideological era following 1989. Since then, East Asia has become a strong voice of cultural particularity in dealing with human rights. This volume focuses on the philosophical, social and political foundations of modern human rights thinking in China, Japan and Korea. In addition, the authors examine different conceptual approaches to the operationalization of an intercultural dialogue on human rights with East Asia, and in doing so illuminate the dispute between universalists and contextualists in the West and in the East.
