The criticism of how international investment agreements are traditionally designed has found its way into newer agreements, such as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). Yet, the much called-for reform of international investment law still faces considerable hurdles which are rooted in the peculiar lack of harmonisation and the various interactions between the majority of newer and older agreements.
