»Imperial Cities and the Reformation«, first published in 1962, has stimulated the discussions in the field of Reformation research enormously, in Germany as well as in the English speaking countries. Moeller's typology of urban reformation processes has influenced the perspective of the Reformation as a whole. It marks the beginning of sociohistorical resarch in Reformation studies. An introductory essay by Thomas Kaufmann analyses the relevance of the text in the context of the history of Reformation research.
