The Age of Enlightenment saw a comprehensive modernisation process of intellectual history put in place. For the churches and the history of theology, the 18th century's approach saw the defining upheaval and transition period to the modern era come into focus, with early modern thought and experience configurations transformed into pluralised, subjective-theoretical models and standards that were capable of coping with modernity. The congress documented in this volume offered current religious history research on enlightenment theology an international inter-disciplinary forum from where the fruits of its labour can be viewed and future research directed. This first-time comprehensive stock-take of current research thus sets down the starting point for all further inter-disciplinary exploration of the subject.
