The principles and policies underlying copyright law have never had a broader societal impact, and have never been more contested than today. As a consequence, contemporary Anglo-American copyright theory draws on political philosophy to propose new and more fertile analytical frameworks for justifying and criticizing copyright law based on concepts such as the safeguarding of democratic discourse, fairness, autonomy and the promotion of human flourishing.
