Cultural diversification is a feature of modern societies. The terms 'state-church law' and 'religious constitutional law' are presently at the center of a lively discussion on how public law should react to the challenges they present for the subject of 'religion'. Whereas the 'state-church law' is mainly geared to the institutional relationship between the state and organized religious communities, the 'religious constitutional law' tries to protect the communal aspects of religion through the basic right to freedom of religion. By dealing with the concrete issues (for example corporative religious freedom, corporation status, Islam), this volume documents the controversy between advocates of both concepts.
