The series Konzepte der Gesellschaftstheorie (KonzGes) is based on a succession of eponymous conferences that were organised yearly by Ingo Pies and Martin Leschke between 1994 and 2013. These interdisciplinary conferences presented five main- plus two supplementary papers, all of which are documented in the series. Each volume also provides critical analysis by featuring an introductory essay and a detailed afterword.
What makes the series special is the thematic focus on the subject. Each volume is dedicated to a single author and explores the logic of their complete works in the social sciences. The author's basic insights are set out with correlations between content and methodology examined next alongside the context in which they were developed. The central question throughout is what the author's specific approach contributes to a better understanding of how modern societies function and the feasibility of their political control.
Konzepte der Gesellschaftstheorie thus provides a critical view of the multifarious works of leading social science figures while also helping revive the discussion on comprehensive theoretical concepts. At a time when the social sciences – particularly academic economics – are intent on dealing with diffuse problems, it is becoming increasingly important not to lose sight of the big picture. And in this regard, the series offers both research and teaching a counterpoint.
This conference series has now been concluded, and no other titles are to be published. However, volumes 1–20 are still available separately or in sets.
