Hermann Heller, Gesammelte Werke
Aged only 42, Hermann Heller died on September 5, 1933 in exile in Spain. His Theory of the State (Staatslehre) counts as one of his most important works and although he was unable to fully complete it, it nevertheless helped define the concept of the social state based on the rule of law. Indeed, his works as a whole are considered fundamental to understanding the social-democratic state.
His Collected Works consist of three volumes, based on 1992's revised second edition:

Hermann Heller Geboren 1891 in Teschen, Studium der Rechts- und Staatswissenschaften in Kiel, Wien, Innsbruck und Graz; 1915 Promotion in Graz; 1920 Habilitation in Rechtsphilosophie, Staatslehre und Staatsrecht in Kiel; 1921 Juristische Fakultät Leipzig, 1926 Referent am Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für ausländisches öffentliches Recht und Völkerrecht in Berlin, 1928 Lehrstuhl für Öffentliches Recht an der Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin und der Deutschen Hochschule für Politik; 1932 Professor für öffentliches Recht an der Universität Frankfurt, 1933 Flucht vor den Nationalsozialisten und Tätigkeit als Gastprofessor an der Universität Madrid, wo er am 5. November starb.
