Geschichte des frühen Christentums

The second volume is to deal with the emergence of the early church and the early period of Christianity with the beginnings of its Christology-centred doctrinal development, its initial spread in Syria and the subsequent mission to the heathens. A further focus will be on the continuing history of the Judaeo-Christian congregations in Palestine and their expulsion from Judaism.

The third volume is set to cover the apostolic era from the Apostolic Council to the beginning of the second century, encompassing the Pauline mission right up to the end of the Flavian era, the Corpus Johanneum, First Clement, Ignatius, and the Pastoral Epistles.

The fourth will stretch from Ignatius, taking in the beginning of the third century and dealing with the origin of the canon in the post-apostolic era, the works of the apologists and gnostic religious-philosophical texts alongside apocryphal writings like the Acts of the Apostles and later gospels. The volume will be drawn to a close with a look at the works of the great theologians Irenaeus, Tertullian, and Clement of Alexandria.
