Referring to the US‑American discourse, this article explores and discusses the political implications of pastoral care in the German-speaking context. This is done with reference to the Bible as well as to contemporary social theory. Thereby, the concepts of power and participation are of central importance. Based on their poimenical and theological interpretation it can be shown that pastoral care is political.
