This volume continues the series of edited volumes dealing with the territories and imperial cities in the region which is now Hesse. It contains church ordinances from the divided landgraviate of Hesse (after 1582), from the counties of Waldeck, Solms, Erbach and Solberg-Königstein as well as from the imperial cities of Frankfurt, Friedberg, Gelnhausen and Wetzlar. This volume continues where the preceding volume on the ordinances of the landgraviate Hesse left off (Sehling Volume 8). One of its features is the compilation of ordinances enacted by territorial sovereigns who predominantly remained Lutheran. However, the conversion of some princes to the Reformed confession from the second half of the sixteenth century onwards can already be observed in the ordinances from Solms-Braunfels.
