In this book the argumentation of the apostle Paul is analyzed against the background of classical rhetorical tradition. Although Paul explicitly rejects worldly wisdom and rhetoric, at many places in his letters he argues as a contemporary lawyer in the courtroom would do, or as a general who uses strategies to encourage his soldiers, or as a sophist who tries 'to make the weaker argument defeat the stronger'.
