This book contains the text of Hans Albert's previously unpublished doctoral thesis along with a retrospective. Against the backdrop of a pragmatism oriented mainly towards Gehlen's anthropology and Dingler's science of knowledge, Hans Albert documents the structure of human practice. His radical criticism of economic thinking is not aimed at questioning certain solutions to problems in this area but rather at proving that the basic economic problem cannot be solved. In the author's opinion, the attempt at rationalizing decisions in economic thinking originated from an untenable fusion of rational and existential problems which can be traced back to a serious anthropological error. In the four chapters, the author deals with the technical, the ethical, the economic and the political problem.
