This volume addresses the interface between law and politics in international relations. The highly complex interrelationship between the two systems is analysed from the perspective of four examples: the evolutionary interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights, the role of legal experts as policy advisers as well as the problem of dealing with gross human rights violations from a legal perspective by way of international law (a discussion of the International Criminal Court) and by other means, such as for example the Truth Commission in Guatemala.
