Rudolf von Sinner analyzes the manner in which two well-known contemporary theologians from very different contexts, Leonardo Boff and Raimon Panikkar, developed their respective trinitarian theologies. In dialogue with these two Roman Catholic theologians, he looks into the possibility of and the prerequisites for an ecumenical hermeneutics, i.e. the possibility of understanding and communication about faith which is inevitably rooted in a specific context in life and is at the same time comprehensive and unifying. As a result of his study, he defines the essential features of a three-stage ecumenical hermeneutics based on the confidence that God may speak to one through the voices of others.
