Commentary on the Code of Civil Procedure 24th edition Edited by Reinhard Bork and Herbert Roth
This new edition is coupled with a far-reaching change for the Commentary: Starting with the 24th edition, it will be published as “Stein, Commentary on the Code of Civil Procedure.” The overdue decision to change the name is based on a scholarly appraisal of Martin Jonas, done by Professor Dr. Bernd Mertens (Institute for the History of Law, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg) at the request of the publishing company (JZ 2024, volume 3, p. 82-90 – free content). He studied Jonas’s work during the era of National Socialism and his handling of the scholarly legacy of his teacher Friedrich Stein, who died in 1923. The publisher and the editors agreed that the findings of this appraisal made it necessary to discontinue using the name of Martin Jonas in the Commentary. “Stein” will remain as a part of the title. The publisher and the editors felt that any further deletion was unwarranted, especially in the context of renouncing the name “Jonas.”
