  Summary
The high theological competence and the literary abilities of the 4th evangelist are emphasized in the overall view of Johannine theology. A text-oriented approach dominates and the main emphasis is on positively explaining and appreciating the present form of the Gospel. In individual studies, three themes are particularly evident: (1) The representativeness - Bildlichkeit - of Johannine Theology. John designs a new iconic sign language of faith, at the center of which are simple and at the same time catchy symbols and metaphors which act directly on the listeners / readers. Simultaneously the symbols and metaphors provide an understanding on the emotional and intellectual level. (2) The 'Jews' in the fourth Gospel. Here the striking accusations of an 'anti-Judaism' are silenced, instead the variety and differentiation of the statements take center stage. (3) John draws characters, such as disciples (Beloved disciple, Peter, Mary Magdalene), sympathizers and opponents. In addition, the following themes are important: John and the synoptics, miracles / signs in the gospel, the reception of the gospel, forms of communication in the gospel, the cross and the doxa with John, the various aspects of love in the fourth gospel.
