The declining number of full-time workers in the church calls for a renewed impetus for a theological clarification of the relationship between work and honorary office. This happens in dealing with documents of the VELKD, which have so far differentiated between ordination and commissioning. The model outlined in the essay, on the other hand, assumes a baptismal vocation and different commissions.
