This article deals with the challenge posed to biblical sermons by modern religious studies. This challenge is exemplified by the demand for consistent historical methods in theology and in homiletics. From this perspective, the Christian practice of preaching by interpreting a biblical text is seen as one of the decisive factors for the successful continuation of Christianity.
