Summary
In his concept of the afterlife, Bultmann diverged from the theological and philosophical thought of his time. According to phenomenology, the world is the ultimate horizon of all perception and thought. Although Bultmann followed the worldviews of Nietzsche, Schweitzer, and especially Heidegger, he departed from them through his eschatological approach and employed the term »Entweltlichung« (»deworlding«). However, the beyond is not a qualitative opposite of the world, but a categorial one. By introducing categorial distinctions, Bultmann corrected Heidegger's overly burdened conception of the world.
