Summary
This article examines whether and how involvement in political extremism is compatible with church offices, drawing on findings from the social and political sciences, theological traditions, and an analysis of the existing, diverse regulations governing service, employment and electoral rights within the EKD and its member churches. The analysis leads to eight recommendations. They include the incorporation of the anti-discrimination clause from the 'Betriebsverfassungsgesetz' and more clearly defined criteria for the loss of the right to stand for election to church bodies.
