  Summary
Recent New Testament scholarship appears to have rediscovered the phenomenon of faith. What is largely ignored is the specifically Pauline notion that faith »came« and that it »was revealed« (Gal 3:23, 25). Paul obviously regards faith not only as a human disposition, but also as a supra-individual event - in marked contrast to everyday language. The article seeks to substantiate this thesis against the backdrop of the history of scholarship and in view of current debates in Pauline exegesis.
