The reformers knew how to use varying forms of media to their advantage. Their analysis of communication theory revealed an understanding of media effects. In contrast, the past 150 years have seen an astounding wary restraint in the German Protestant church towards media developments. The challenge today is to restate reformatory insights in the context of contemporary communication forms.
