Summary
k regarding SRM and field experiments as well as an assessment of the NAS report. It demonstrates a lack of and therefore a need for sufficient and concrete obligations in international treaty bodies such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, and the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution. Still, with the prohibition of transboundary environmental harm, customary international law provides a fundamental obligation. Against this background, the author pleads for a cautionary approach regarding field experiments characterized by a differentiated and carefully weighed decision-making process.
