Summary
This study revisits one of the most keenly debated issues regarding the historical relationship between John the Baptist and Jesus. While scholars agree that the man from Nazareth was initially a part of the Baptist's movement, Jesus's own baptismal practice poses more questions. This is particularly evident in the debate that the Fourth Gospel seems to incorporate into its narrative and that reflects a contested memory.
