Frowald Gil Hüttenmeister analyzes virtually all the documentations of Jewish cemeteries or individual tombstones which have been published, as are numerous unpublished documents including on-site findings.
There is no doubt about the significance of Jewish cemeteries as sources of genealogy, history and art history. Almost all the Hebrew inscriptions contain abbreviations. It is primarily those phrases which recur which are abbreviated, and in most cases they contain many words. In addition this index of abbreviations, which is now being published in a second expanded edition, lists all those words which are not written out completely along with the complete wording and a German translation. Information from virtually all the published documentation of Jewish cemeteries has been used here, as have been numerous unpublished documents. The index contains over 8,500 abbreviations together with more than 10,000 complete wordings.
