The »Introduction,« first published in 1779, emphasized a central idea of theological enlightenment by critically transferring early Protestant dogmatics into a contemporary form. It was with this work that Johann Jakob Griesbach (1745–1812) made a name for himself in the neological religious discourse which encouraged a professionalization of prospective theologians in the 18th century, a professionalization which had a decisive historical impact.
