Felix Welti examines disability and rehabilitation as legal terms. In his study, he deals with the results of medical and sociological research and the discussion about the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health within the World Health Organization, describing the responsibility of the German social state – the constitutional term for welfare state – in its historical, juridical and institutional forms. He does a general systematic analysis of the dignity, equality, self-determination and participation of the disabled under German and European law, using many examples from social security, labor law, guardianship and other legal and social problems. For this book, Felix Welti received the 'Zarnekow-Förderpreis für Rehabilitationsforschung' in 2006.
