Constitutive to protestant theology is its bearing with the Bible. At the same time, theology's position on, and its methodology of, biblical interpretation has always been, and continues to be, very controversial. The history of modern biblical exegesis is inextricably linked to the name of Immanuel Kant whose philosophical conception of the Bible and an attendant philosophical theology are therefore subjects of as many critical as affirmative studies. Presented here for the first time is a discursive overview on the problematic, which subjects Kant's biblical hermeneutic agenda, as well as its dogmatic consequences, to intensive inspection in the realm of current research. Renowned authors from the fields of Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology scrutinize Kant's view on biblical hermeneutics and dogmatic theology by posing questions concerning the present day situation as well as the historical context and reception history.
