Summary
On the basis of a linguistic approach to interpretation, and in contrast to the more dominant approach of a diachronic reading in German studies, Michael Dübbers takes a new look at central passages of the Epistle to the Colossians. In this context it becomes clear that the author of Colossians did not regard Christ primarily as a ruling sovereign, but that he wanted to reassure the addressees, who had been irritated by Colossian philosophy, of their salvation by reminding them that they are existentially joined to Christ.
