Ingolf U. Dalferth combines a hermeneutical and analytical approach to problems of evil and seeks to outline a way of dealing with evil that does not pretend to make sense of the senseless but rather shows how to relate meaningfully to what is meaningless.
Evil is a complex category with a complicated history. It contrasts not only with good but also with God, and these contrasts have continued to interact in different ways in the course of history even where they were disregarded. Theories of evil have not always paid enough attention to this. Ingolf U. Dalferth proposes an analysis of evil that takes these historical changes into account and draws attention both to their gains and their losses. He combines a hermeneutical and analytical approach to problems of evil and seeks to outline a way of dealing with evil that does not pretend to make sense of the senseless but rather shows how to relate meaningfully to what is meaningless.
