Summary
Using Augustine's basic approach, the concept of »unity«, Jörg Trelenberg interprets the highly complex philosophy and theology in the early works of Augustine. He shows that this concept played a key role in the conflict with dualistic Manicheism, pagan polytheism, subordinating Arianism and sectarian Donatism, to which Augustine on principle always answered in the same manner, giving the »one« absolute priority over the »many«.
