Summary
The Lord's Prayer is one of the fundamental texts of Christianity. This short, perfect and intense prayer had a remarkable appeal. It was translated into every language in the world and became one of the favorite means of expressing piety for countless generations. In this volume, Marc Philonenko attempts to trace the Lord's Prayer back to its original content. Taking the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Targum tradition into consideration, the author presents a completely new interpretation of this text. The book is written in a manner intelligible to all and is of interest not only to specialists but to laymen as well. It is being translated into several languages. A foreword by Martin Hengel is added to the German translation.
