The experience of anxiety was a key problem in the development of the young Luther's theology. Using an historical perspective, Thorsten Dietz focuses on Luther's concept of fear against the backdrop of Augustine and the discussion in the Middle Ages. Using present-day dogmatic and psychological approaches, the author reflects on the benefits of Luther's theology for interpreting and coping with fear as a phenomenon of life today. For this thesis Thorsten Dietz has been awarded the Matin-Luther-Preis from the Luther-Gesellschaft (Wittenberg).
