When dealing with the influence of German constitutionalism in the world, the focus is on the specifically German way of legal thinking. By way of example, this volume takes a look atthe interactions with five different legal systems. Three of them - Japan, Brazil and Spain - show a significant tradition of the reception of German legal thinking. By contrast, the case of Austria represents the parallels and differences between two legal systems that are closely connected by a common language and by common historical roots. The question of the influence of German law on European law, finally, focuses on the specific situation of vertical effects between a supranational legal order and its national subsystems.
