Summary
Hans Buchheim, a classical philologist, is one of the few current scholars who is able to link the Greek politeia to the Roman res publica and the republic of the Basic Law as well as to connect Aristotle's practical philosophy by way of Hegel and Searle with the demands of current political theory construction. His Theory of Politics, published in 1981, is based on a general theory of situative thinking and acting for all political organizations, regardless of their ethical quality. Even then, he pointed out the necessity of a second, complementary theory for a modern republic. This theory begins with the elementary rights of human beings to peace, freedom and equality.
