Klaus Bartels describes the dogmatic position of the so-called »secondary obligor«, which is somewhere between complete contract participation and providing a single security for a debt, such as a guarantee. Whereas legal theory sees the secondary obligor merely as a person who provides security, the author demonstrates that he also has rights under the contract and has to be involved in any actions concerning the contract. Thus the role of the second obligor becomes more differentiated, and his position is strengthened.
