Summary
Nils Hauser analyses the institution of the Berlin criminal police, its legal foundations and practice. He shows how the judicial police turned into police justice during the Weimar Republic and in National Socialism. In doing so he also examines the persecution of Jews by the criminal police led by Ernst Gennat of the homicide division M.
