The discussion about a »European concept of work« in copyright law is not the only thing revealing that there is still hardly any consensus about the definition. Lisa Sommer's legal-historical investigation follows the development of the term from the Literature Copyright Act of 1871 up to the uniform term found in 1965's legislation. By doing so, she contributes to a better understanding of the work in the sense of copyright law.
