Karl Barth's thought was received with great interest not only by Protestants but also by Catholic theologians, who analyzed it in detail. In this study, Benjamin Dahlke outlines how and why this happened in the period prior to Vatican II. He shows that the preoccupation with the 'Epistle to the Romans' and 'Church Dogmatics' triggered a theological renewal. In addition to Hans Urs von Balthasar's critical appropriation of Barth's thought, the author also focuses on the debate over the issue of analogia entis, which was linked to Erich Przywara. In dealing with this, the author makes a new contribution to Karl Barth's biography as well. Benjamin Dahlke has been awarded the Hanns Lilje Prize 2010 by the Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen for this work.
