Although mitochondrial replacement therapy can effectively combat certain grave genetic disorders, using it has been largely forbidden in Germany under 1991's Embryo Protection Act. Maja Caroline Lehmann identifies gaps in the law and comes up with a reform proposal that would allow the therapy to be used on a case-by-case basis.
