Summary
Albrecht Söllner presents an economic analysis of institutions and institutional change. Institutions are constraints which shape human interaction. They have a strong impact on the performance of societies, organizations and individuals. Although the knowledge of how institutions affect performance has increased in recent years, the question of why many inefficient and ineffective institutions still exist remains largely unanswered. Söllner's theoretical framework helps to further our understanding of the process of institutional change by defining and explaining behavioral patterns of individuals who perceive institutions as being less than optimum. On the basis of the information given in the book, the reader will be able to draw conclusions for managing institutional change.
