Die Theologie der Liebe Gottes in den johanneischen Schriften

Enno Edzard Popkes analyzes the relationship between the motifs of the semantics of love and the dualistic motifs in the Johannine writings, which inspired eminently contrasting interpretations. He shows that it is inappropriate to ascribe a particularistic tendency to the Johannine writings. The »song of songs of the love of God« (1 John 4:7-5:4) and the »dramaturgic Christology of the love of God in the Gospel of John« are culmination points in the formation of early Christian theology. Without giving an analogy, they reflect and formulate why the life and death of Jesus can be understood as an event of God's love. The direction of this concept towards universal salvation is not relativized by the dualistic motifs of the Gospel of John, but emphasized.
