The purpose of a sociology of elementary forms of social life is to demonstrate the origins, forms of expression and the effectiveness of sociality in each context-specific form. The elementary forms of social life originate as »interactions« (Georg Simmel), as configurations of obligations and self-imposed obligations, they are based on human speech and its tendency towards commitment and self-imposed commitment.
Ideas, actors and constellations are the conceptual central point in a sociology of elementary forms of social life. Human communication is defined by challenges and releases, it is controlled by ideas, motivated by individual dispositions and is governed in its development by constellations. The extent of its power of determination eludes the subjective understanding of those who have initiated it and who try to simplify the complexity of their communication cognitively and affectively by looking for an addressee and by attribution.
