The book contains a critical analysis of and tribute to the fundamental philosophy of Emil Lask, a neo-Kantian well known for his legal philosophy but apart from that previously neglected. Above all the book deals at lenght with his doctrine of the self-justification of philosophy (ultimate justification) in a theory of the categories of philosophical cognition and its object.
